Cypress Festival Association seeks volunteers, vendors and sponsors

February 18, 2013

Cypress Festival Association seeks volunteers, vendors, and sponsors:

As each new calendar year starts, the Cypress Festival Association gears up for the month’s long effort needed to mount a whomping great community festival on the last Saturday in July.

This year, the Festival will fall on July 27. The day will begin with a 5k/10k race sponsored by the City of Cypress and a pancake breakfast ably handled by the Kiwanis Club of Cypress. The Festival grounds at Oak Knoll Park, 5700 Orange Ave. in Cypress, will welcome an expected 30,000 visitors to enjoy craft booths, a Business Expo, a kid’s zone, roving clowns and stilt-walkers, a chili cook-off, and a car show — plus continuous live entertainment on up to four stages at the same time!

The Festival Association is now looking for volunteers, vendors and sponsors to participate in this year’s Festival.

Forms are available at the Festival website, www.cypressfestival.com.

From the website homepage, scan down the list of links on the lefthand side to find the form that’s right for you.

Click on “Sponsors” if you are interested in offering the Festival Association a donation. Money allows the Festival Association to quickly assign funds to current needs. In-kind donations provide services or materials. Recognition of sponsors is divided into tiers, and all levels of donation are welcome.

Click on “Vendor Information” if you are considering applying for a booth to sell your own crafts. (Commercial vendors should exhibit in the Business Expo section managed by the Cypress Chamber.)

Click on “Volunteers” if you would like to help the Festival Association either ahead of the Festival or on the day of the Festival.

Festival Association seeking volunteers for 2013 Cypress Community Festival

January 18, 2013

Festival Association seeking volunteers for 2013 Cypress Community Festival:

The Cypress Community Festival Association blasted off the new year by electing a new executive board in preparation for the 2013 Cypress Community Festival in July. Last year’s very successful event drew more than 30,000 visitors from across the Southland. Big draws included the chili cook-off, classic car show, and the 5k/10k morning race, as well as top-notch performances by The Brewer Boys, Peter Brandon, and the Chris Anderson Group, and the Festival Association hopes to amp up the fun to even greater levels this year.

Each member of the executive board is elected to a two-year term. Serving as Chair is Shelley Henderson, with Dave Sluga acting as Past Chair. Wanda Slade was elected as Vice Chair, with Lynn Adams as Secretary and Marie Chance as Treasurer.

The Festival Association, together with its new executive board, discussed many important agenda items, including the need to recruit new volunteers to help out with planning and preparation. Also discussed were lessons learned from previous Festivals, and ideas on how to bring in new sponsorship revenue. Subcommittees were formed to handle the various aspects of the Festival, such as operations, the raffle, publicity, booths/vendors, and entertainment.

“We want to say loud and clear that we need and want lots of community support,” stated newly-elected Festival Chair Shelley Henderson. “Many hands make light work! Please visit the Festival website or email the Committee to let us know that you want to help!”

The meeting concluded with a short video showcasing last year’s Festival, featuring a time-lapse sequence and highlights from throughout the day.

It’s never too early to throw your hat in and help out!

The 31st Annual Cypress 5K & 10K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, July 28th and attracted 1734 participants from 16 states, 262 more than last year. The weather was perfect and the flat and fast course attracted many talented runners.

The City would like to thank the numerous volunteers who, year after year, help to make this an amazing event. Special thanks also goes out to our sponsors, who helped make the Run a great success!
